AUSVEG VIC Grower of the Year Nomination 2025
Hussey & Co is proud to be nominated for the AUSVEG VIC Grower of the Year Award in the 2025 Awards for Excellence.
As Hussey & Co celebrates 50 years in business, we reflect on our journey and are grateful to each and every person who has contributed to our success.
From humble beginnings as a 40-acre farm, Hussey & Co has evolved to become a vertically integrated national grower, processor, and distributor, with consistent year-round supply to major retailers, foodservice businesses, and international markets. This transformation has been achieved through persistence, resilience, determination and teamwork.
Throughout our journey we’ve never forgotten where we came from and remain true to our roots. The Pearcedale site, where our head office and Victorian processing facility are located, was Brian Hussey’s original 40-acre farm, and what is now the head office was his family home. The importance of our heritage is also evident in the Hussey & Co logo, which has evolved over the years, but still reflects the brand pillars of innovation and quality which have been central to our success.
Continually striving for excellence and innovation has made Hussey & Co an industry leader. We’ve undertaken significant research, development and investment to create a unique processing model which prioritises food safety, produces unrivalled quality and improves product value and performance.
Our ‘Cold, Clean and Dry’ processing has become the gold standard in food safety, delivering premium quality value-added ready-to-eat salads with extended shelf life, flavour, and freshness.
With a long history of innovation and precision agriculture, Hussey & Co was the first Australian grower to invest in optical sorting technology, using infra-red cameras to grade the salad processing line at ultra-high speed to dramatically improve product quality.
We also commissioned development of the world’s largest air-drying tunnel to precisely control product moisture levels, improve shelf-life and food safety. Hussey & Co’s innovation and leadership has advanced the whole baby leaf industry, challenging conventions to develop new benchmarks in quality, safety and product performance.
To improve the sustainability of processing facilities and reduce the company’s carbon footprint, we actively pursue renewable energy initiatives and have developed the largest Solar Farm on the Mornington Peninsular – offsetting 100% of Hussey & Co’s peak daytime energy use.
As we enter our 50th year, a new chapter is beginning for Hussey & Co with the launch of Hussey Group, our national grower-processor model. With six national farms and ready-to-eat processing facilities on both the east coast and west coast of Australia, Hussey Group has the capacity and capability to meet growing demand in retail, wholesale and export markets.
By combining two geographically spread, highly capable, owner-operated grower-processors into a single national supply chain, we have created an unparalleled model of efficiency, sustainability, and reliability. It’s an exciting time, full of opportunities and benefits to our customers.
Yet as we’ve grown over the past 50 years, we’ve never lost sight of what matters most. We view our people as our biggest asset and focus on continuously improving company culture to ensure staff, customers and suppliers feel supported and valued.
Throughout 2025 we’ll be celebrating this journey and recognising the people who have supported us along the way. We’ve developed a Celebrating 50 Years graphic which you’ll see starting to appear on our packaging, buildings and trucks. A media campaign will launch soon, sharing our story to industry, retail and wholesale audiences. We’ll also be acknowledging the support of our valued customers, partners and team with commemorative plaques, recognition and branded merchandise.
Thank you for helping to make Hussey & Co leaders in our field. We look forward to celebrating with you.
