Hussey & Co Solar Farm

To improve the sustainability of Hussey & Co’s processing facility and reduce the company’s carbon footprint, the business has developed the largest Solar Farm on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsular – offsetting 100% of Hussey & Co’s peak daytime energy use.

Growing, processing, packing and storing produce are energy intensive activities. To reduce the environmental impact, Hussey & Co has installed a roof-mounted 99.64kW system and a 505.44kW ground-mounted system, resulting in a 100% offset of energy use. Consisting of 2000+ panels and over 20 inverters, it is the largest Solar Farm on the Mornington Peninsula.

“This sustainability initiative will reduce the company’s environmental footprint by more than 945 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum, for the next 25 years”, explains Hussey & Co Managing Director Jeremy Haw, “Which is the equivalent of taking 161 cars off the road annually.”

“Being in a farming business we get impacted firsthand by climate change,” states Jeremy. “As a result, we’re passionate about supporting any initiatives to sustain our future by reducing our carbon footprint and investing in renewable energy sources.”  The Solar Farm is also an effective way to manage risk and ensure security of electricity supply.

“During peak use periods or storm events, our business frequently suffered black-outs and had to invest significant funds for back-up power”, explains Jeremy. “The Solar Farm now ensures the stability of Hussey & Co’s power supply, whilst supporting the sustainability of the company’s operations”.
